recent projects

Have not blogged in while! Here is my poster from our project a bit ago...Its for my sorority's Ultra Violet Ball which celebrates our 50th year anniversary here on campus. I chose it as my subject because its something I am passionate about and we needed posters to advertise anyways. It took alot of work and brainstorming but I really like how it turned out.

Another project we just finished was a design copy. I used an image i found on a blog but there was no artist name avalible. I enjoyed this project because I learned alot of new illustrator techniques from this that will be very helpful in the future.

Photo Project and Poster

This project was alot of fun! I really enjoyed making bananas out of different objects and textures.

This is the link to my photo album!

The process was pretty smooth. I had plotted and brainstormed my ideas prior to shooting so I was pretty well prepared.

For our next project we are doing posters. I am not sure what I am going to do. I will probably research this week in and out of class for an event and a type of poster i want to have. I did a similar project like this in my design 2 class so I am hoping I will be better prepared for making one again!

Representaional Project

For our next project I am project I am going to be making objects into a banana. I chose the banana because I wanted to do a fruit for sure and was torn between pear, pineapple, and banana. I had the most ideas for a banana. I will probabaly shoot more then 10 ideas in order to have choices on the final images.

I will be doing this project friday, saturday, and sunday because I need to go to lee's summit to buy a new camera.

Logos!

Heres some of my logos i've made so far in class

This is the first logo we made in class that tells a story using symbols. It is of my trip to japan. We first started learning to use simple symbols but I still struggle with being too detailed.

Here's another logo i came up with when we were brain storming for our story logo. Again its a little too detailed but i love it. I really enjoy drawing cartoon type logos but i need to learn how to be simple first.

This is the logo I am working on in illustrator right now. Its similiar to my final story logo which is a rain margarita. This is a snow cocoa. I love drawing coffee cups so any time I can use it i do. The hardest thing i'm discovering on this logo is making sure the corners on the coffee cup are not too sharp looking when using pen tool.

I will post my final story logo at a later time. I also have more brain storming logos that I will also post at a later time!

Class So Far

I've been really enjoying this class so far. It's different from any class I've ever taken and I'm really enjoying logo making. The only bad thing is that it's my first class of the day on mwf so I often struggle to get to class on time. Reasons for this include I'm lazy, I'm not a morning person, and the rough walk from Panhellenic to Grinstead. This is something I'm working on in the future...

Gestalt

Gestalt is the theory that proposes that the brain's operational principle is holistic with self organizing tendencies. The whole is different then the sum of the parts. We have form-forming capabilities in our senses that recognizes first firgures and whole forms rather then individual parts that make up the entire visual.

Emergence : This picture is of a dalmatian sniffing the ground under the shade of a tree. The dog is not immediately recognized by individual parts but is uncovered as a whole.

Reification: The visual of shapes based on the negative space by which they are formed.

Multistability: The presence of 2 or more images in one shape or form. Both may not always be visible at the same time.

Invariance: When an object is changed in some way either by rotating, twisting, or morphing is but it's still recognized as the same shape.

Prägnanz

Law of closure: seeing a closed object based on just enough information

Law of similarity: the minds grouping of elements into collective totalities based on relationships like color, size, and form

Law of proximity: grouping of images based on spatial or temporal proximity

Law of symmetry: objects are perceived collectively based on symmetry

Law of continuity: continence of any pattern in the mind

Law of common fate: grouping of elements based on their direction of movement

Classes

I am a junior at UCM but I just changed my major to Graphic Design last fall so I am a little behind.

Classes I am taking this semester include:
  • Design 3
  • Cultural Anthropology
  • Typography
  • 20th Century Art and Architecture
and this class of course

I am pretty much done with general ed classes and will continue taking my graphic design major classes. I may even take a victory lap and stay another semester following my graduation in order to get in more classes
